The role of empathy and emotional intelligence in nurses’ communication attitudes using regression models and fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis models

Abstract: To evaluate current practices, establish intervention strategies and evaluate their effectiveness. The evaluation of these variables and their relationships are important in creating a satisfied and sustainable workforce and improving quality of care and patient health.

“…Despite these limitations, this study helps bridge a gap in the literature in relation to the influence of education and training in communication, EI, and empathy, providing a significant insight into this area. Its findings are therefore of particular interest given that the final outcome of effective nurse-patient communication is a reduction in human error (19) and direct and indirect health costs (4) and improved disease adaptation (6)(7) . The findings of this study suggest that these components of nursing care should occupy a more prominent position in the curriculums of degrees and training programs.…”

“…To perform the fsQCA, the raw data from participants’ responses were transformed into fuzzy‐set responses. First, as suggested in the literature (Giménez‐Espert & Prado‐Gascó, ; Villanueva et al., ), all missing data were deleted and all constructs (variables) were re‐calibrated with values between 0–1. When we consider only two values, we proceed with 0 (not having the characteristic, fully outside the set, low values) – 1 (having the characteristic, fully in the set, high values).…”

“…When performing the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis, the raw data from the participants' responses were transformed into fuzzy-set responses. First, all the missing data were deleted as suggested in the literature, and all constructs (variables) were calculated by multiplying their item scores (Villanueva et al, 2017;Giménez-Espert and Prado-Gascó, 2018;Navarro-Mateu et al, 2020). Before performing the analysis, the values were recalibrated between 0 and 1.…”
