The purpose of this study was to examine the students' perceptions on the environmental health conditions related to the contagious skin disease of scabies and examine the implementation of clean and healthy behavior of the students. This research was done by adopting qualitative approach with phenomenological method. The qualitative data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis with the help of the Maxqda 10 Program. The data were collected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. The findings showed that the environmental sanitation of the Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in some bedrooms are still not sufficiently ventilated and they needed clean water. The characteristics of Pesantren teaching which teaches students to live modestly, patiently, and prihatin (simple). The perceptions of Pesantren students about scabies that scabies was a normal thing to be experienced by students and that as long as the itching did not produce pus or blood it was not scabies. The healthy behavior of the students in this study were related with taking a bath, maintaining clean clothes, washing hands before eating of the students were still lacking. The efforts in improving the healthy living of the students was seen through the establishment of a health center in the Pesantren called Poskestren (Pesantren Health Services) but there were still limited facilities and the implementation of the administrators’ programs to prevent scabies is also seen to be not optimal yet.

Introduction: Value coaching is an inseparable part of education, which can be a powerful means of warding off negative influences in the globalization era. Main objectives: Regarding the importance of value coaching, this study aims to describe Kiai's leadership program in building a value system in Islamic boarding schools (IBS). Background problems: The study was also conducted in response to the existing symptom among young people that shows their ignorance of values and morals in social manners. Novelty: The study on Kiai’s program is intended to cover a value system based on transcendent values in instilling the students’ values. Research Method: This research used a qualitative method, and the research subjects consisted of Kiai, Ustadz (teacher), and Santri (students). The data were obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were then validated by triangulation and processed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings: The results revealed that the role of the Kiai had designed the value system program from upstream to downstream for IBSs. Conclusion: It is concluded that the projection of Islamic boarding schools in the future is the idealism of the Kiai's thinking, which continues to change and develop in line with the development of the IBSs. This finding's implication is the importance of systematic follow-up of value system implementation to achieve better goals.

KH. Achmad Zamachsyari or Gus Mad became one of the initiators to make changes by establishing a modern Islamic boarding school in Malang. He leads, provides a vision to move toward improvement and change. He chose an area in Ketawang, Gondanglegi, Malang to begin his struggle to build a modern Islamic boarding school. This study aims at obtaining a complete description of Gus Mad's leadership behavior; his interaction patterns; and modernization concept of Islamic boarding school education. The research design is qualitative and it uses the character study method. Gus Mad was chosen as the object of research because he was one of the Kiais in Malang who made a change, namely from the leader of the Al-Fattah Singosari Salafiyah then founded the Al-Rifa'ie Modern Islamic boarding school. Data obtained by interviews, documents, and observation. Data analysis used the Spradley model, consisting domain, taxonomic, component and theme analyses. Three findings are (1) Gus Mad's behavior at Al-Rifa'ie leads to transformational leadership; (2) his interaction pattern at Al-Rifa'ie led to traditional leadership; and (3) hisconcept of modernization of Islamic boarding school education is based on the principles of al-Muḥâfaẓat ‘alâ al-qadîm al-ṣâliḥ wa al-akhdhu bi al-jadîd al-aṣlaḥ. Gus Mad’s leadership style at Al-Rifa'ie Modern Islamic Boarding School Malang is a neo-transformationalism leadership style, a combination of transformationalism and traditionalism leadership style based on the principles of al-muḥâfaẓat ‘alâ al-qadîm al-ṣâliḥ wa al-akhdhu bi al-jadîd al-aṣlaḥ.
