Impact of spiritual values on tourists’ psychological wellbeing: evidence from China’s Buddhist mountains

Spiritual values can be a source of meaning for people, and can also determine their feelings, behavior, and mental health. In China’s Buddhist mountains, we collected a total of 400 valid questionnaires from Mount Putuo and Mount Jiuhua, and identified spiritual values as transcendence, general connectedness, inner balance, positive life direction, and special religious feelings. We also explored the impact of these spiritual values on tourists’ psychological wellbeing according to the PERMA model (positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement). The results revealed that the more easily attained spiritual values (general connectedness, positive life direction, and special religious feelings) had a greater influence on psychological wellbeing than the less easily-attained spiritual values (transcendence and inner balance). Positive emotion and meaning, as components of psychological wellbeing, were strongly influenced by the four spiritual values, whereas engagement, accomplishment, and relationships were influenced by fewer spiritual values. The research contributes to the existing knowledge on spiritual values by analyzing their dimensions and relationships with tourists’ wellbeing from different levels, and also provides empirical suggestions for the sustainable development of religious tourism destinations.

Female entrepreneurs have irreplaceable status and essential significance in entrepreneurship research. Improving females’ entrepreneurial intentions is an important topic in this area. Accordingly, this study, based on the theory of planned behavior, investigates the factors that affect female students’ entrepreneurial intention at China’s vocational colleges and whether household income moderates the relationship between entrepreneurial education, attitude, competence, self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. 2149 females from vocational colleges in Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province, and Jiangxi Province were randomly chosen to participate in the study. They had taken part in entrepreneurial courses throughout 2021–2022. In addition, data were analyzed by structural equation modeling partial least squares. The results demonstrate that entrepreneurial education did not directly affect female students’ intentions. Entrepreneurial competence, self-efficacy, and attitude positively affect entrepreneurial intention. It is further concluded that household income significantly moderates the relationship between entrepreneurial education, attitude, competence, and intention. However, there is no significant difference in the relationship between self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention between high and low-household-income students. While females continue to confront sexism in the workplace, it is crucial that we conduct empirical research into the factors influencing female entrepreneurial intention to boost economic growth and gender parity. This research helps bridge a gap in the prior literature and adds substantial value to encouraging female entrepreneurs.

Objective: To explore the effects of parental rejection on college students’ innovative and entrepreneurship ability and its mechanisms, as well as the mediating roles of growth mindset and psychological resilience in it. Methods: 1051 college students were surveyed using Short-form Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran (s-EMBU), Growth Mindset Scale (GMS), Connor- Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC), and Innovation and Entrepreneurship Capacity Scale (IECS). Results:(1) The results of the correlation analysis indicated that parental rejection exhibited negative correlations with growth mindset, psychological resilience, and innovation and entrepreneurship ability. Additionally, growth mindset demonstrated positive correlations with psychological resilience and innovation and entrepreneurship ability, while psychological resilience displayed positive correlations with innovation and entrepreneurship ability. (2) Chain mediation analysis demonstrates that parental rejection exerts a substantial direct impact on the innovation and entrepreneurship ability of college students, while also influencing these abilities indirectly through the intermediary mechanisms of growth mindset and psychological resilience, both independently and in a chained mediation process. Conclusion: The impact of parental rejection on college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship ability is multifaceted, encompassing both direct effects and indirect effects mediated by growth mindset and psychological resilience, as well as their combined influence.
