“…In the mentoring literature reviewed, more than one definition of mentoring exists, and its definitions, like its practices, are changing as well as expanding 5,20,65 . In fact, competing definitions of mentoring have been advanced; over a decade ago, it was found that the definitions reflected ill‐defined roles for mentors and mentees, and unclear expectations 68 .…”

“…In fact, competing definitions of mentoring have been advanced; over a decade ago, it was found that the definitions reflected ill‐defined roles for mentors and mentees, and unclear expectations 68 . Broad agreement, however, is that mentoring “is relational and developmental,” has career (instrumental) and psychosocial (relational) functions, and “includes phases and transitions,” as identified by Kram (p. 11) 2,20,65,66 …”

“…To be reviewed, scholarly studies of group mentorship in education had to (1) be published between 2009 and April 2020, using decade as a contemporary marker (except for Kram's studies); (2) be empirically based or framed conceptually; (3) appear in premier journals with relevant ideas; (4) be authored by mentoring researchers; (5) be situated within EDL/ADM; and (6) encompass doctoral education. Literature reviews of mentoring were also analyzed (e.g., Huizing, 2012;Kroll, 2016;Rawlinson & Willimott, 2016;Redmond, 2015;Schunk & Mullen, 2013), in addition to handbooks on mentoring (Clutterbuck et al, 2017;Fletcher & Mullen, 2012;Irby et al, 2020). Document analysis was applied to select literature and analytical notetaking by the authors in three overlapping initiatives spanning 2017 to 2019: (1) the Spirals collaborative (a democratic modernization of the Junto [see Kroll, 2016]) with 11 diverse award-winning faculty mentors, emerging academics, and doctoral students nationwide; (2) the RDP, with 32 faculty mentors and doctoral students across the United States; and (3) a PD-oriented doctoral cohort (PDDC) with 16 members, located at a public research university in rural Virginia.…”

“…emccouncil.org). Clutterbuck (2007) legrészletesebb és ezáltal a legdirektívebb modellje figyelembe veszi egyrészt a helyzeti, másrészt a mentorálás időbeli viszonyulását, hangsúlyt helyezve a mentorált szükségletére. Beépíti modelljében továbbá Philipps-Jones (2001) megközelítését is, amely szerint az aktív és figyelmes hallgatás, a bizalomépítés képessége, a célok meghatározása, valamint az ösztönzés és motiválás a mentor legfontosabb tulajdonságai.…”
