“…The bismalonamide 2,2′‐[1,2‐phenylenebis(methylene)]bis( N , N , N′ , N′ ‐tetrabutylmalonamide) ( 1a ) was found to be particularly efficient at extracting trivalent lanthanide ions from nitric acid solutions . It was suggested that this ligand could coordinate to a metal ion with four carbonyl oxygen atoms, as its ortho ‐xylylene platform holds two malonamide groups close together . This coordination mode promotes favorable entropy changes of the reaction and therefore might explain the increased distribution ratios of the lanthanide(III) ions with bismalonamide 1a in the process of liquid–liquid extraction.…”

“…These results indicate that the dimers of the bismalonamide 1a and lanthanide(III) ions were not being formed under the selected experimental conditions. Also, when the diluent of an organic phase was nitrobenzene, no evidence for the dimer formation was observed by liquid–liquid extraction …”

“…153 The use of RTILs as solvents for the extraction with malonamides changed their extraction behaviour in a way similar to that of DGAs (vide infra). constitute an important class of ligands for actinide partitioning first introduced in the early 1990s as a substitute for malonamides.…”
