The state of radiological protection; views of the radiation protection profession: IRPA13, Glasgow, May 2012

Abstract: The IRPA13 Congress took place from 14-18 May 2012 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and was attended by almost 1500 radiological protection professionals. The scientific programme of the Congress was designed to capture a snapshot of the profession's views of the current state of knowledge, and of the challenges seen for the coming years. This paper provides a summary of these results of the Congress in twelve key scientific areas that served as the structural backbone of IRPA13.

“…According to studies, radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year in USA. Recent studies implemented in Europe, North of USA and Asia assert that notable number of lung cancers occur because of radon exposure (Field et al 2000;Lazo et al 2012;WHO 2010). Meteorological and geological parameters, constructional materials, type of construction and indoor ventilation rates are the most important factors affecting indoor radon concentration (Faheem 2008;Kropat et al 2014;Malik and Rafique 2012;Müllerová et al 2010).…”

However, there are no data in the current literature documenting the amount of RE these patients receive .
