The 21st century skills focus on scientific literacy competences in various urban and rural areas, one of which is Papua. Scientific literacy has competences to identifying scientific problems, explaining scientific phenomena, and utilizing scientific findings to solve problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the science literacy competences of IPA class VIII students of SMPN 5 Jayapura. Scientific literacy is competencies to understanding science, communicating science, and applying scientific conceptual to solve problems. A descriptive qualitative approach is used as this type of research. This research was conducted at SMPN 5 Jayapura. The sample selection used purposive sampling technique. There were 33 students who became respondents and teste in this study. The research instruments were documentation, observation, tests and interviews. The average percentage of competency aspects with indicators of identifying scientific problems, explaining scientific phenomena, and utilizing scientific findings is below 80%. The average percentage of aspects of knowledge about the concept of motion, with sub-concepts of regular motion, force, and Newton's laws is below 90%. The average percentage of human, animal and plant movement systems is below 70%. The highest score, average, median, mode, and lowest score of the cognitive scores of students' scientific literacy abilities were 100; 68.33; 75; 80; and 30. The scientific literacy competences of grade 8 students of SMPN 5 Jayapura are still low, which is shown in terms of the percentage of competence and is classified as moderate for the knowledge aspect. The conclusion of this study is that the scientific literacy competences of students at SMPN 5 Jayapura are in the sufficient category.

Self-regulated learning is an effort to manage an individual’s learning. This research aims to 1) determine the strategy of self-regulated learning (SRL) based on problem-solving toward the learners’ learning outcomes and 2) determine the learning outcome improvement of the learners in learning by using the SRL based-problem solving. This research is quantitative research with quasi-experimental type and pretest-posttest control group design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The research population covered all in Senior High School (SMA 5) Yogyakarta. The samples were from the tenth graders of Mathematics and Science Program 3 as the control group and Mathematics and Science Program 1 as the experimental group. The data collection methods consisted of test and non-test. The analysis result were, the hypothesis test showed that the applied strategy influenced the learners’ learning outcomes and the learners’ learning outcomes had improvements with the N-gain average score of 0.590, categorized moderate. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Quick on The Draw learning model assisted by the optical instrument learning book integrated the values of Pancasila on problem-solving skills. This research is a pre-experimental with one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample is 27 students of class XI MIA 2 MAN 1 Yogyakarta. The test technique with an essay sheet is used to obtain data on problem-solving skills. Data of problem-solving skills were analyzed by quantitative methods using N-gain. The results showed that there was influence the Quick on The Draw learning model assisted by the optical instrument learning book integrated the values of Pancasila on problem-solving skills. The N-gain value for each step, namely: understanding the problem of 0.87 (high), devising a plan of 0.92 (high), carrying out the plan of 0.75 (high), and looking back of 0.32 (medium).
