The study of viscosity-temperature dependence and activation energy for palm oil and soybean oil

Abstract: In fluid transport, precise knowledge or estimation of fluids behaviour is very necessary, for mass flow and heat transfer computations. In this study, physicochemical analysis of palm oil and soybean oil were conducted, in addition to an equation modeling the relationship between the energy (Ea) and the pre-exponential factor (A). Later, two other parameters; the Arrhenius temperature (T) and Arrhenius activation temperature (T*) were introduced to buttress the veracity of the model used. The model is… Show more

“…The main factor considers when selecting a suitable lubricating oil for a particular system is viscosity though it is engine oil or a hydraulic oil. 8 The oil film thickness is determined by the viscosity of the fluid and that should be sufficient at the actual operating temperature to separate the metal surfaces. Low viscosity can cause the excessive metal-to-metal contact between moving parts and wear while too high viscosity can reduce the system efficiency.…”

“…The coefficient ς 0 in formula (0) depends on the reference temperature. The viscosity dependence on T in the Arrheniustype equations is discussed in detail by Messaâdi et al [3] and Ike [4]. For a rigorous dimensionless description, it is necessary to transform it to a functional formulation that is independent of the choice of a reference point.…”

“…Cooking oils are vital ingredients for preparing most of everyday food in many parts of the world and in particular, they are known to be rich sources of beneficial dietary nutrients that contribute to human health [1][2]. Palm trees, Olive plants, cocoa-nut trees, groundnut and soybean plants are few examples of plants whose seeds and fruits can be processed in order to extract various kinds of cooking oils that are mostly consumed on daily basis in this part of the world.…”
