The Suitability for the Work‐Related Musculoskeletal Disorders Checklist Assessment in the Semiconductor Industry: A Case Study

Abstract: Musculoskeletal disorders and symptoms are common among workers in the semiconductor and related industries. Ergonomic‐related checklists are used to identify musculoskeletal disorder risk factors in the workplace. This study explores the suitability of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) checklist for use in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Six companies were enrolled in the current study, and 122 subjects, ranging in age from 21 to 54 years old, … Show more

“…The OSHA MSDs checklist was found to be suitable for the early identification of WMSDs in the semiconductor industry (Lin et al, 2013). Thus, it was adopted in this study to help identify the WMSDs of the TFT-LCD industry, in which some manufacturing processes are similar as those in the semiconductor industry.…”

“…The standard Nordic MSD questionnaire has been used in applications such as furniture manufacturing [14] and LCD manufacturing [15]. The OSHA checklist has been used for the analysis of semiconductor manufacturing [16]. The main weakness of these self-reporting approaches is that the results are not always reliable, which can lead to biased interpretations.…”
