“…A severe form is caused by Cryptococcus neoformans and epizootics of this type have been reported by Pounden, Amberson & Jaeger (1952) and by Simon, Nichols & Morse (1953). So far C. neoformans has not been found as a saprophyte in the human or animal digestive tract, but has been isolated from soil (Emmons, 1951;Ajello, 1956), from pigeon nests and dung (Emmons, 1955) and from a Dentroctonus beetle (Shifrine & Phaff, 1956).
