The template synthesis, spectral characterization and thermal behavior of new binuclear Schiff base complexes derived from N-aminopyrimidine with 2,3-butandion

Abstract: A new series of two types of acyclic binuclear Schiff base complexes, prepared by the template condensation of N-aminopyrimidine and 2,3-butandion in the presence of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) in n-BuOH solution, were analyzed and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and electronic spectroscopy, conductivity and magnetic measurements. From the conductivity measurements, it is concluded that the complex of Ni II is a 1:1 type of electrolyte. All the complexes have sub-normal magnetic moments in accord… Show more

“…ese ligands are oen prepared in suitable yields and purity during direct reaction between aldehyde or ketone and primary aromatic and/or aliphatic amines. In situ complexation reaction is another common method for synthesis of these compounds [6,7]. Schiff-base transition metal complexes have been found to show attractive properties and applications.…”

“…The infrared spectra of the ligands HL 1 and HL display a sharp band around 1609 cm −1 , which was assigned to v(C=N) stretching. 17 Actually, this band was shifted to lower (9-11 cm −1 ) wavenumbers in the mixed ligand Co(II) and Mn(II) complexes, indicating the participation of azomethine nitrogen in the coordination to metal ion. 18 The ν (C=S) at 1208 and 737 cm −1 in the free ligand shifts to higher frequency after complexation, due to coordination with the sulfur atom of the thione group for all the complexes (Figure 2a).…”

“…3 T 1g transition and confirm an octahedral geometry around the Ni(II) complex. [34,35] The magnetic momentum value for Ni (II) complex was 2.87 B.M. This might indicate that the geometry of the Ni(II) complex was octahedral.…”
