The therapeutic effects of naringenin on bronchial pneumonia in children

Abstract: Bronchial pneumonia, also known as lobular pneumonia, is a common infectious disease in children, especially in toddlers and infants. 1 Bronchial pneumonia in children often occurs in winter and spring, when the weather is cold and unpredictable. Bronchial pneumonia in children is usually induced by pathogenic infection, such as bacteria, viruses, molds, mycoplasma pneumoniae, as well as superinfection of viruses and bacteria. 2,3 The primary clinical symptoms include high grade fever, cough, breathlessness, … Show more

“…Thirty studies involving 5,166 subjects (flavonoids group: 2636; control group: 2530) were included. Five eligible studies ( 20 24 ) investigated the efficacy of flavonoids in the common cold, 4 ( 25 – 28 ) in influenza, 5 ( 29 33 ) in COVID−19, 3 ( 34 – 36 ) in acute non-streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis, 1 ( 37 ) in acute rhinosinusitis, 7 ( 38 44 ) in acute bronchitis, 1 ( 45 ) in bronchial pneumonia, and 4 ( 46 49 ) in upper respiratory tract infections. In common cold, 5 RCTs with 503 patients were involved.…”

“…The risk of bias data for the included 30 RCTs was presented in Figure 2 . The randomization process was rated at high risk in 3 (10%) RCTs ( 30 , 45 , 48 ) because concealment of allocation sequence was not presented or open-label design. Besides, 2 (6.7%) RCTs ( 34 , 42 ) were rated at some concerns for the lack of details of the concealment and the difference in baseline data between groups; the remaining 25 (83.3%) RCTs were rated at low risk.…”

“…It is the main flavanone in grapefruit. Although COVID-19 pneumonia is different from bronchopneumonia, the latter being a bacterial infection [97], it is interesting to note that naringenin reportedly can alleviate bronchial pneumonia in children [98].…”
