The throat as a Randall–Sundrum model with Goldberger–Wise stabilization

Abstract: An interesting feature of type IIB flux compactifications is the natural presence of strongly warped regions or 'throats'. These regions allow for a 5d Randall-Sundrum model interpretation with a large hierarchy between the UV and IR brane. We show that, in the 5d description, the flux stabilization of this hierarchy (or, equivalently, of the brane-to-brane distance) can be understood as an implementation of the GoldbergerWise mechanism. This mechanism relies on the non-trivial bulk profile of the so-called Go… Show more

“…As for the brane potentials λ α H , they are given by Eq. (25). The BC (38) at the UV brane imply 5 M 0 − ak = 0, while the BC at y 1 fixes the value of the Higgs background at the IR brane h 1 as γh 2 1 = M 1 − ak and thus triggers electroweak symmetry breaking.…”

“…In the original KKLT compactification of type IIB string theory [28], the uplifting operator is provided by an anti-D3 brane stabilized at the IR end of warped throat, while the CY volume modulus T can be identified as a field living at the UV end of throat [35]. In such case, T is also sequestered from the uplifting brane, and thus P lift is (approximately) independent of T [23].…”
