The Use of Five Repetition Sit to Stand Test (FRSTST) to Assess Fall Risk in the Assisted Living Population

Abstract: Aims: The purpose of this study is to determine whether the Five Repetition Sit to Stand Test (FRSTST) cutoff score for fall prediction in community-dwelling older adults (>15 s) is valid for predicting falls in individuals living in an assistedliving facility. Methods: Eighteen subjects (78-95 years old ±4.4 years) performed the FRSTST and were followed over a 12-month period. The incidence of falls was collected from facility incident reports after 3, 6, and 12 months. Results: The 6-month receiver operating… Show more

“…For the 5TSTS, the patients performed five sit-to-stand transfers, sitting on a standard height chair (43–45 cm) with their time being recorded. Patients who were either unable to stand or needed more than 16.7 s to perform the test, were excluded from the study in accordance with standard practice ( de Melo et al, 2019 ; Shea et al, 2018 ; Trommelen et al, 2015 ). For the 4MGST, the patients were asked to walk for 4 m, recording their time.…”
