The Water-Soluble Polysaccharides of Dermatophytes: Iii. A Galactomannan From Trichophyton Interdigitale

Abstract: The water-soluble polysaccharide preparation from Trichophyton interdigitale was fractionated to give two distinct galactomannans and a glucan. A galactomannan isolated via its insoluble copper complex had [ a ]~ +75" (water) and was composed of D-galactose (12Yq) and D-mannose (88Y0). On periodate oxidation, the galactomannan consumed 1.73 mole perlodate and released 0.67 mole formic acid and 0.12 mole formaldehyde per anhydrohexose unit. Hydrolysis of the methylated galactomannan gave 2,3,5,6-tetra-0-methyl-… Show more

“…The first detailed investigation concerned the mycelia of various dermatophytes: Trichophyton granulosum, Trichophyton interdigitale, Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton schönleinii, and Microsporum quickeanum (233)(234)(235)(236)(237)(238). Poly saccharides containing D-galactose residues in both furanose and pyranose ring forms, and for the latter both a-D and β-Ό configurations, have been encountered.…”

“…Just like ethylene glycol, extraction with phenol-water (12) and trichloroacetic acid (2) gave glycopeptides. Besides these glycopeptides, polysaccharides (galactomannans and glucan) were found (1,3,4).…”
