The world’s largest family with familial atrio-ventricular nodal reentry tachycardia

Abstract: Typical atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) is one of the most common forms of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) referred for radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA). Dual atrioventricular nodal pathways, which are the substrate for AVNRT, are rarely occurring congenital abnormalities. We report a three-generation family from the southeastern region of Poland (Podkarpackie voivodship) with 6 women having normal hearts and presenting with a history of paroxysmal tachycardia with ons… Show more

“…[3][4][5][6] However, the prevalence of familial occurrence was unknown. The results of our present study estimate the prevalence of familial AVNRT at 127/10 000 persons (95% confidence interval, 82-196/10 000 persons).…”

“…Similar familial relationship was reported by others. 3,4,6 Of note, in 3 families with siblings one of the parents had symptoms suggestive of PSVT. On the basis of these pedigrees, and as the genetic basis of AVNRT is presently unknown (locus heterogeneity is likely), several modes of inheritance are possible.…”

“…Comparison of our previous data on implementation of ZF approach and current study shows encouraging constant value of ZF approach performance with very safe, effective, and fast procedures. [13,31] There are, however, needs for new ZF dedicated catheters, selective use of ICE (for crossing aortic valve or need for transeptal puncture), CS catheter stability, and approach modification (patient preselection or magnetic resonance preprocedural imaging) to decrease number of cross-over to fluoroscopy.…”

“…It has been considered as a sporadic disease until the first familial AVNRT was reported in 2004 [1]. Subsequently, a series of familial AVNRT were reported [2][3][4][5], and we described three familial AVNRT cases in China [6]. Yoav M et al…”
