Theoretical and Experimental Study on Hot-Embossing of Glass-Microprism Array without Online Cooling Process

Abstract: Optical glass-microprism arrays are generally embossed at high temperatures, so an online cooling process is needed to remove thermal stress, but this make the cycle long and its equipment expensive. Therefore, the hot-embossing of a glass-microprism array at a low strain rate with reasonable embossing parameters was studied, aiming at reducing thermal stress and realizing its rapid microforming without online cooling process. First, the flow-field, strain-rate, and deformation behavior of glass microforming w… Show more

“…Often coupling microstructures are ablated with femtosecond laser or hot embossed in glass or molded in a layer of polymer on top of the chip [18][19][20][21][22]. Usage of each kind of material for lab-chip and microstructures fabrication brings limitation either for biological analysis possibilities or optical detection efficiency.…”

“…However, this method has weaknesses, such as applying an excessive pressing load will cause master mold to break [ 44 , 45 ]. In addition, overheating at the embossing step may cause deformation of the acrylic thin film [ 46 , 47 ]. Furthermore, pulling an embossed acrylic film out of a master mold may cause damage to the nanogrooves on a master mold [ 48 ].…”
