Therapeutic effect of andiroba oil (Carapa guianensis Aubl.) against oral mucositis: an experimental study in golden Syrian hamsters

Abstract: The use of andiroba in topical form may be associated with reduced intensity of OM. Seek therapeutic alternatives to minimize the pain and suffering that these side effects cause cancer patients is an important scientific step.

“…The intensity of the hemorrhage was determined as follows: clot and intraluminal blood (score 3); mucosal and wall hematomas (score 2); telangiectasia or vessel dilation (score 1); normal (score 0). These criteria were adapted to the stomach and intestine, based on an oral mucositis study 16 .…”

“…The insertion of andiroba oil in the PCL matrix also helps in the high cell viability presented. The oil has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antiallergic potential effects [ 25 ], is widely used in traditional medicine to treat joint pain and treat muscle and skin injuries [ 65 , 66 ]. The oil still may have antioxidant activities that are important during the inflammatory phase of the healing process [ 67 ].…”

“…The andiroba ( Carapa guianensis ) seed oil is widely used in traditional medicine for its pharmacological properties. It is extracted from the seed and has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiallergic, antimicrobial, and healing properties, which are derived from its biologically active constituents such as limonoids and triterpenes [ 23 , 24 , 25 ]. Thus, the present study aimed to develop PCL films incorporated with andiroba oil (hybrids) like a scaffold to the wound healing process, using the solvent casting technique.…”

“…Natural health products (NHP) have also been studied mainly because of their antioxidant, antiinflammatory and healing effects as well as anticancer activity [64,[75][76][77][78]. In this regard, Buccal Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana Shaw) oil emulsion was successfully used as a mucoadhesive system to treat oral candidiasis [79].…”
