The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of propolis-iron oxide nanoparticles in eliminating the T. evansi parasite and rehome stasis of deleterious iron status in experimentally infected rabbits. Twenty male rabbits were divided into equal four groups (n=5). the 1 st group as Control negative, 2 nd control positive, 3 rd trypanosomiasis and treated with propolis iron oxide nanoparticles, and 4 th trypanosomiasis and treated with diminazene,2 nd ,3 rd , and 4 th groups were inoculated with T. evansi, and were checked for the onset of parasitemia. After 15 of the onset of parasitemia 3 rd group was treated with propolis-iron-oxide nanoparticles 30 mg iron /kg BW, and 4 th group was treated with diminazene drug with a single dose 3.5 mg/kg BW. The result showed that experimentally infection with T. evansi caused a significant decrease of serum iron and ferritin and a significant increase in total iron-binding capacity and unsaturation iron-binding capacity, as well erythrocytes fragility, bilirubin totally and partially. Treatment with propolis-iron oxide nanoparticles improved iron status parameters to semi-normal values much better than diminazene drug, in addition, reduced the total bilirubin concentration and osmotic fragility of erythrocytes toward a normal state. It can be concluded that the propolis-iron oxide nanoparticles proved successfully rebalancing iron status and eliminating the parasite and making iron available.

The health benefits and toxicity of plant products are largely dependent on their secondary metabolite contents. These compounds are biosynthesized by plants as protection mechanisms against environmental factors and infectious agents. This review discusses the traditional uses, phytochemical constituents and health benefits of plant species in genus Zanthoxylum with a focus on cancer, microbial and parasitic infections, and sickle cell disease as reported in articles published from 1970 to 2021 in peer-reviewed journals and indexed in major scientific databases. Generally, Z. species are widely distributed in Asia, America and Africa, where they are used as food and for disease treatment. Several compounds belonging to alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and lignans, among others have been isolated from Z. species. This review discusses the biological activities reported for the plant species and their phytochemicals, including anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-trypanosomal, antimalarial and anti-sickling properties. The safety profiles and suggestions for conservation of the Z. species were also discussed. Taken together, this review demonstrates that Z. species are rich in a wide range of bioactive phytochemicals with multiple health benefits, but more research is needed towards their practical application in the development of functional foods, nutraceuticals and lead compounds for new drugs.

Bioactive compounds possessing therapeutic value are used for long time by vast group of researchers to treat various diseases for the goodness of the mankind. Most of the commercially available bioactive compounds are derived from plants because of their affirmative property on human health with minimum side effects. Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Poit. is one of the most important traditional and therapeutic plant, which is belongs to Lamiaceae family. The Biochemical test of the leaf extract of Hyptis suaveolens using different solvent shows the presence of biologically significant compounds. Thereby, the Antimicrobial properties of leaf extract of H. suaveolens carried out against six different bacterial pathogens and three fungi pathogens. Most potential activity was observed in the crude extract of Hexane, Ethyl acetate and Chloroform against E.coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Streptococcus pyrogenes respectively when compared to Klebshilla pneumonia. Among the other crude extract, the chloroform crude extract resulted with more number of molecules in the phytochemical analysis and also it exhibits superior antibacterial activity. Hence, the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis of chloroform extract was achieved and 17 different bioactive compounds were discovered. Neophytadiene, (S,Z)-Heptadeca-1,9-dien-4,6-diyn-3-ol, 2,3-Diazabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene, 7,7-dime and Stigmasterol are the significant molecules present in the chloroform leaf extract it has the highest value for the mankind.
