Background: Dizziness and disequilibrium are common complaints in both general adult and the geriatric population. Dizziness is often used to describe the sensations of vertigo, lightheadedness, imbalance, presyncope, disorientation, and/or gait instability. The cause may be otologic, neurologic, cardiovascular, psychiatric, orthopedic or ophthalmologic. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV) is, by far, the most common cause of episodic vertigo. Materials and M ethods: This study was done in a tertiary care center of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in patients above age of 20 and with BPPV. The purpose of the study was to compare the efficacy of Epley's maneuver with medical therapy versus medical therapy alone in patients of BPPV. Results: A total of 50 patients were divided into two groups: 25 to the group A which received Epley's maneuver with drug therapy and 25 to the group B which received only drug therapy. In our study, Epley's maneuver with medical therapy was found to be more effective than medicine given alone. Conclusion: This study shows that the Epley maneuver with medical therapy provides effective and longterm control of symptoms in patients with BPPV. It benefits over medical therapy alone in terms of avoiding the delay in vestibular compensation and recurrence.

<p>Vertigo is a symptom often encountered in routine clinical practice. Pharmacotherapy plays a vital role for treating the vertigo. Vestibular sedatives and drugs controlling nausea and vomiting constitute the important part of the pharmacotherapy for vertigo. Although there are several drugs available for controlling the vertigo, there are no definitive and universally accepted drugs available for treatment of vertigo. On the basis of the etiology, drugs with specific mechanism of action may be used to control this disabling symptom. Symptomatic treatment is often priority by many clinicians during the treatment of the vertigo. The pharmacological treatment of the vertigo is often decided after correct etiological evaluation of the symptom. Common drugs which are beneficial for treating vertigo are anticholinergics, antihistamines, benzodiazepines, calcium channel blockers and dopamine receptor antagonists. This review article exclusively focuses on pharmacotherapy of vertigo.</p>

Background: As vertigo is been one of the most common condition affecting the individual functionally, physically and emotionally and result in some form of disability. Most of physiotherapy intervention proves to be effective in vestibular rehabilitation of patients with vestibular disorders. Gaze stabilization exercises are effective and some suggest balance training is also effective in vestibular rehabilitation. But there is minimal literature on combination of both exercise protocol. Aim: To find out the effect of Gaze stabilization Exercises and balance training on quality of life of patients with Peripheral Vertigo. Methods: 30 participants with vertigo due to peripheral pathology will be selected on the basis of inclusion, exclusion and head impulse test. The patient will be evaluating using Visual analogue scale, Dizziness Handicap Inventory, Berg Balance Scale and Dynamic Gait Index Scale. The participants will be distributed into two categories. Group-A will receive gaze stabilization exercise and Group-B will receive balance training along with gaze stabilization exercise. Participants will be evaluating post-treatment. Conclusion: This study concluded that there may be significant reduction in vertigo symptoms and improved Quality of Life in peripheral vertigo by using combine effect of Gaze Exercise with Balance Training.
