“…53 Besides, VE is a non-enzymatic defense system in testicular mitochondria. 16 This vitamin can inhibit oxidative damage in the testis 16,49 and prevents the apoptosis induction in spermatogenic, Sertoli, and Leydig cells 18 which, it plays an important role in their count, as well as, sperm viability. 22,49 Additionally, VE can return glutathione to its normal levels on the system intracellular free radical scavenging and reduces the oxidative stress levels.…”

“…In addition, the protective effects of vitamins C on the liver, kidneys, brain, and testes against oxidative damage caused by exposure to Pb have been well demonstrated [18][19][20]. Vitamin C exerted nonenzymatic antioxidant function by destroying free radicals and trapping them in the aqueous phase to protect the biological membrane [21,22]. However, there is a report that high doses of vitamin C have been suggested to cause oxidative stress and cell death [23].…”

“…On the other hand, our data detected that propolis treatment after oral mixture metals exposure, afforded semi-normal recovering from many complications arose by metals effects; where signi cant reduction in the concentrations of all investigated metals was observed and con rmed statistically among liver tissues (p < 0.001) and kidney (p < 0.01) except cadmium which reduced without statistically signi cance. The depletion of lead, nickel, cadmium and antimony in the propolis treated group may be due to the antioxidant property of propolis that able to decrease the oxidative stress, inhibits progressive uctuations convinced through metals mixture, repaired alterations rising in the liver and kidney close to healthy measurements (Mumtaz et al, 2020). Propolis can scavenge reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, prevents lipid peroxidation, upregulates biosynthesis of various cytoprotective and antioxidant proteins, and has an inhibitory effect on the in ammatory cytokines (Gupta et al, 2011;Alghasham et al, 2013;Hosseini and Hosseinzadeh 2018).…”
