Therapie des aktiven Morbus Crohn mit dem Boswellia-serrata-Extrakt H 15

Abstract: The study confirms that therapy with H15 is not inferior to mesalazine. This can be interpreted as evidence for the efficacy of H15 according to the state of art in the treatment of active Crohn's disease with Boswellia serrata extract, since the efficacy of mesalazine for this indication has been approved by the health authorities. Considering both safety and efficacy of Boswellia serrata extract H15 it appears to be superior over mesalazine in terms of a benefit-risk-evaluation.

“…We have been able to confirm the anti-inflammatory properties of these compounds in an experimental model of colitis in rats (21). Furthermore, recent clinical trials with formulations containing boswellic acids have demonstrated some effectiveness in the treatment of asthma, osteoarthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) (12,14,15,20). Although these clinical studies have drawn attention to boswellic acids as potentially powerful anti-inflammatory drugs, little progress has been made in defining the mechanisms that underlie the beneficial effects of these agents.…”

“…11 In clinical research, positive effects of boswellic acids in the treatment of inflammatory diseases could be shown. 3,12 There exist clinical trials about the use of boswellic acids in asthma, 13 rheumatoid arthritis, 14 Crohn disease, 15 collagenous colitis, 16 and osteoarthritis of the knee. 17,18 To our knowledge, there exist only first clinical observation results for the treatment of cerebral edema by boswellic acids.…”

“…Boswellia serrata contains four important BAs: a-boswellic acid, b-boswellic acid, 11-ketob-boswellic acid (KBA), and 3-acetyl-11-keto-b-boswellic acid (AKBA) (Singh et al, 1996). The gum resin is established to possess potent anti-inflammatory activity in traditional ayurvedic medicines (Ammon, 2006) and also used in other diseases like, joint pain (Sharma et al, 1989;Gupta et al, 1994;Kimmatkar et al, 2003), tumor (Huang et al, 2000), colitis (Gupta et al, 2001), hyperlipidemia (Pandey et al, 2005), crohn's illness (Gerhardt et al, 2001), etc.…”
