“…Fig.2shows the results of the thermal analysis (TGA and DTA) of the mixture in stoichiometric amounts of the precursor reagents (H 3 BO 3 + MgO), used in the solid state synthesis of MgB 4 O 7 , according to the reaction: 4H 3 BO 3 + MgO → MgB 4 O 7 + 6H 2 O (T = 900 °C). The thermal analysis results were similar to the results reported by Souza et al32 In the DTA curve, an endothermic band is observed up to a temperature of 185.20 °C, with four thermal events at temperatures 56.22 °C, 106.39 °C, 135.78 °C and 154.68 °C. The TGA curve shows that up to the temperature of 56.22°C there was a mass loss of 2.93%, which is probably associated with volatile impurities contained in the precursors.…”

“…Differences in TL curves for MgB 4 O 7 :Dy samples synthesized either through solidstate or precipitation methods have already been reported by De Souza et al [37]. They found significant differences in the TL glow curve, with an additional higher temperature peak being created through precipitation synthesis.…”

“…Magnesium tetraborate is normally produced by reacting boric acid with magnesium oxide at a temperature of approximately 900 1C under an oxygen atmosphere. 63,64 It is well known that magnesium oxide (MgO) has F s , F s + , and F s 2+ color centers (oxygen vacancies containing two, one, and no electrons, respectively) on the surface. [65][66][67][68] Oxygen vacancies on the surface of MgO are created during the decomposition process of magnesium precursors (e.g.…”
