“…Symmetric triiodide units with halogen bonding character are more stable than asymmetric triiodide units and can be used as antimicrobial agents [42,43]. The stability and antimicrobial properties of such symmetric triiodide units remains high, even if incorporated into other polyiodide moieties like pentaiodides [40,44].Polymers can stabilize iodine, decrease the sublimation rate, increase long-term stability, durability, and controlled long-term release of iodine [45][46][47]. Povidone-iodine (PI) is a commercial disinfectant consisting of the polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and iodine [48].…”

“…The TG and DTG curves of UMCF and CMCF under the same conditions are shown in Figure 4. The results indicate that the thermal stability of cellulose fibrils after cationic modification is decreased, the thermal degradation temperature of UMCF is 328.06 ∘ C, and after cationic modification, the thermal degradation temperature of CMCF decreases to 314.24 ∘ C. The weight loss peak of UMCF is at 360 ∘ C, while the CMCF has two weight loss peaks, 305 ∘ C and 325 ∘ C. This results showed that the cationic modification reduced the thermal stability of cellulose fibrils to some extent; the possible reason was that the introduction of quaternary ammonium enhanced the mechanism of random chain scission due to its nucleophilic character [41][42][43]. Figure 5 shows the zeta potentials of pulp suspensions added three kinds of additives at various additive amounts.…”

“…In this context, inorganic antimicrobial agents, like the elements iodine, copper [15][16][17][18], and very recently both elements combined [19,20], as well as Li + , Na + , K + , other metal cations [21,22] and transition metals [23] have gained a growing interest in drug development and biocidal applications [24][25][26][27]. Especially iodine and copper are very essential to human health, nontoxic in most mammals, including humans, but have been approved and registered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as antimicrobial agents and are used in many combinations in the food industry [17].…”

“…Only few years ago, Copper-Nanoparticles were also introduced against many microorganisms, offering new prospects for antimicrobial treatments [21], even in combination with chitosan, the derivative of the naturally occurring polymer chitin [25] leading to the emergence of polymer based antimicrobial applications [26]. Polymeric antibacterial agents, the new field of investigations, have the ability to increase the long-term effectiveness and the stability of the biocidal agent [27].…”
