Thermal imaging of the wheel-rail interface

Abstract: The paper presents the use of a new method of imaging of the wheel-rail interface wear adopting thermal imaging techniques. Based on the heat generated at the point of contact, coming from the friction and strain of the mating materials, it is possible to identify the type and location of the wheel-rail interface.
