Thermal Reshaping of Gold Nanorods in Micellar Solution of Water/Glycerol Mixtures

Abstract: Gold nanorods (Nds) with aspect ratios of 4, 3.5, and 2.8 were prepared by the electrochemical method. The nanorods were thermally studied in binary solvents of aqueous glycerol at different ratios (25%–75%). The results illustrated that the longitudinal surface plasmon resonance (SPL) is strongly dependent on the dielectric constant. The maximum absorption is red shifted with increasing the glycerol/water ratio. This was attributed to the decreasing value of the dielectric constant of the binary solvents. Mor… Show more

“…59,69 Some parameters such as the dielectric constant of the surrounding medium and the pH should also be considered for controlling the maximum absorption spectrum of the GNRs. 5,6 There are good review papers available for more detailed information on the synthesis methods and the mechanism of GNR formations. 26,52,63 GNRs prepared by the seed-mediated synthesis have a bilayer capping of CTAB, a cationic surfactant.…”

“…However, the presence of a second oxide as SiO 2 can alter the optical absorption of CeO 2 , favoring a slight shift in wavelength [47]. Moreover, absorption with λ ≥ 470 nm confirms the presence of active metals (Au and Cu [48,49]). The intensity and width of the bands are usually related to the size and shape of the active particles on the catalyst surface.…”

“…Signal related to spherical Au particles (λ ~528 nm) can present a red-shift towards higher wavelength due to changes in particle size and morphology of Au [49]. Similarly, bands associated with Cu + (472 nm) and Cu 2+ (692 nm) are susceptible to a red-shift due to changes on the interaction of Cu with the support [48].…”
