Thermal treatment of superconductor thin film of the BSCCO system using domestic microwave oven

Abstract: In this work we report the preparation of a superconductor thin film of the BSCCO system using a good quality powder with nominal composition Bi 1.8 Pb 0.4 S r 2 CaCu 2 O x which was thermally treated using a domestic microwave oven (2.45 GHz, 800 W). This film was grew on a single crystal of LaAlO 3 (100) substrate and exhibited a crystalline structure with the c-axis perpendicular to the plane of the substrate. An onset superconducting transition temperature was measured at 80 K.

“…Fig. 3(c) shows a fibrous structure with plate-like grains that is characteristic of the Bi-2212 [30] superconductor material; it forms a continuous length with~500-nm diameter in accordance with the histogram shown in Fig. 2(b).…”

“…shows the electrical resistance versus temperature behavior of the BSCCO10% sample. Ohmic behavior can be observed above 90 K; below this temperature, electrical resistance decreases sharply with temperature, suggesting a potential transition from the normal to the superconductor state of the sample, as discussed in literature [30]. The sample has biphasic nature (Bi-2212 and Bi-2201), and it shows nonzero resistance at 70 K owing to the presence of the Bi-2201 phase, which is in the normal state.…”

“…The down triangles indicate the (2212), the "" symbol indicates the Ca 2 PbO 4 and the "o" symbol represents the (2223). Then, it can be noted a predominance of the Bi-(2212) phase however, there was also the formation of Ca 2 PbO 4 , a non-superconducting material 9,10 . In Figure 2(b) is shown the XRD analysis of the commercial powder.…”

“…The temperature control was obtained using a temperature controller with a K-type thermo-couple in contact with the SiC pellet. Figure 1 shows the experimental scheme for the sample preparation in according to Silveira et al 9 . The structural characterization of the film was performed by x-ray diffraction (XRD), by using a Shimadzu di⋅ractometer model XRD-6000, in Bragg-Brentano geometry, using a CuK α1 radiation with wavelength of 1,542 Å and step size of 0.02 o .…”
