Thermo-Hydraulic Analyses Associated With the Design of Jt-60sa Tf Coils Development and Validation of the Tacos∕texto Tool

Abstract: In the framework of the JT-60SA project, TF coils design activities have led to the development of TEXTO (Thermo-hydraulic EXtended TOol), a dedicated simulation tool centred on the GANDALF code for calculating the temperature margin (∆Tma) central criterion. From a first version providing conservative results, this tool has been upgraded to a pseudo 3D model by integrating a 1D thermo-hydraulic approach in ANSYS, leading to an additional and independent module named TACOS (Thermo-hydraulic Ansys COmputation S… Show more

“…First, the TF conductor design was found sound with respect to the temperature safety margin when proper strand specifications are considerd. The main design parameters of conductor and strand can be seen in Table III, consolidated by previous electromagnetic and thermohydraulic studies [13]- [16] allowing to switch confidently to industrial phase. Recent parametric analyses have been led using common strand characteristics input for evaluating the possible critical performances degradations derived from TF coil manufacturing stages, e.g.…”

“…This mass flow perturbation in the conductors should nevertheless be limited, as the mass flow in the TF casing represents less than 12% of the winding pack mass flow. Finally, the limits of TACOS/TEXTO were found acceptable [4], and this tool allowed to evaluate the impact of several TF coil design features in the framework of cost and feasibility optimization [5].…”
