Thin polymer films based on poly(vinyl alcohol) containing graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide with functional properties

Abstract: In this article, the effect of the addition of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) on the mechanical properties, thermal stability, and electrical conductivity of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has been investigated. Different weight percentages of nanofillers ranging from 0.5 to 5 wt% have been combined with PVA. The ultrasonic technique has been applied to disperse nanofillers in the PVA solution. The nanocomposite films have been prepared via solution casting technique and the dispersion of nanofi… Show more

“…The reinforcing effect of GO on polymer composites has also been reported in many studies 30–32 . In addition, the interaction between GO and polymer restricted the movement of the polymer molecular chain and reduced the elongation at breaks 30,33 . Moreover, the transfer of stress was hindered by large swaths of GO when the GO content increased further 34 …”

“…Nanoscale recombination and hybridization is an effective way to obtain high performance and functional polymer composites. [1][2][3][4][5][6] Polymers modified by nanomaterials are widely used in sensors, biomedical materials, optics, aerospace, and other fields. [7][8][9][10][11] Energetic polymer material is an important binder as well as energetic component, which has been widely used in propellants, explosives and pyrotechnics.…”

“…Among these nanofillers, graphene oxide (GO) has attracted giant attention for fabricating high-performance rubber materials owing to its excellent thermal, mechanical properties, large specific surface, low cost, and easy processing. [9] GO has a 2D structure like graphene, but the single layer of carbon atoms is covalently functionalized with oxygen by oxidation of graphite flakes. [10].…”
