Three‐dimensional evaluation of tooth preparation forms in paediatric zirconia crowns: An in vitro study

Abstract: With growing aesthetic desires among paediatric patients and their guardians, the availability of prefabricated zirconia crowns (PZCs) has helped dental practitioners meet the aesthetic needs of the patient. PZCs have established their excellence in aesthetics and biocompatibility. 1,2 Previous clinical studies have shown that PZCs have reliable long-term retention. 3,4 PZCs are, however, highly stiff and require a passive fit for complete seating. 5 Unlike stainless steel crowns (SSCs), PZCs cannot be contour… Show more

“…11,12 Recently, more advanced methods, such as digital grading of tooth preparations using scanners, virtual simulators and software programs by computer-assisted design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM), have been used. [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] Computer-aided systems have many feedback options and self-assessment abilities. 22 These enable the students to develop their manual skills by immediate evaluation and feedback of their tooth preparation designs.…”

“…As the crowns for primary teeth are prefabricated, pediatric dentists must pay careful attention to crown adaptation and cementation. In addition, there are wide variations in the degree of PZC adaptation by tooth preparation in clinical situations [ 4 ]. Thus, the evaluation of the biomechanical behavior of PZCs in various situations is of clinical significance.…”
