Three-dimensional measurement of small inner surface profiles using feature-based 3-D panoramic registration

Abstract: Rapid development in the performance of sophisticated optical components, digital image sensors, and computer abilities along with decreasing costs has enabled three-dimensional (3-D) optical measurement to replace more traditional methods in manufacturing and quality control. The advantages of 3-D optical measurement, such as noncontact, high accuracy, rapid operation, and the ability for automation, are extremely valuable for inline manufacturing. However, most of the current optical approaches are eligible … Show more

“…The specific operation idea of this method is as follows: first, extract the feature points of two adjacent images to be spliced separately, then match the extracted feature points, and finally, perform coordinate transformation on the matched feature point pairs to make two. The images are merged into one to achieve the purpose of image stitching 21,22 . The advantage is that the amount of calculation is small, the accuracy is high, the adaptability is good, and the matching effect is better; the disadvantage is that the feature point detection takes a long time.…”

“…On the premise of not destroying the measured sample, the general three-dimensional profile measurement method is difficult to measure the internal three-dimensional profile due to the limitation of space. Non-contact three-dimensional inner contour detection methods can be roughly divided into ranging method [1][2][3][4] and visual method [5][6][7][8].Ranging method generally needs to combine highprecision multi-dimensional scanning mechanism for point/line scanning, and the detection system is complex and the measurable dynamic range is small. Ring beam method is one of the visual methods, which has simple structure, high efficiency and adjustable measurement dynamic range, and has high research and practical value.…”

“…Therefore, visual measurement technology has been progressing rapidly in recent years. With the advantages of modular design, low cost, non-contact, long stand-off, and high resolution, it has been successfully applied in 3D reconstruction [10,11], target detection [12], deformation analysis [13,14], etc. For long-travel measurement, a linear displacement measurement method based on image grayscale information was developed by mapping the grayscale values of each pixel on a periodic pattern [15].…”
