Three-Dimensional Shaking Table Test of a Ten Story Rc Frame (2015)

Abstract: Three-dimensional shaking table tests on a ten-story reinforced concrete building were conducted with sliding bases and with fixed bases at E-Defense in 2015. This paper reports on the test results in case of sliding bases. The purpose of the project is to develop a new foundation system that would ensure continued use of the building even subjected to an extreme earthquake motion. Cast-iron plates were placed at the bottom of the foundation bases and on concrete bases, which allows base sliding. The base slid… Show more

“…In the test system, as an instrument for positioning, its main feature is that it can accurately transmit and detect a certain form of information and convert it into another form of information. In order to realize that the vision sensor has the functions of image acquisition, image processing, information transmission, and unit control, the hardware structure block diagram of the designed vision sensor is shown in Figure 3 [15].…”

“…Considering this background, in this study, we have been aiming to develop a free‐standing base sliding and rocking system that is laterally unmovable during small and moderate earthquake motions but moves laterally during strong earthquake motions to suppress structural damage. In a shaking‐table test conducted in 2015, a cast iron plate was installed on the bottom surface of the grade beams of a building designed according to the current Japanese seismic design code, and the possibility of utilizing a free‐standing structure with cast iron plates for the reduction of seismic energy was confirmed 20–22 . In the 2015 experiments, the normalized base shears (NBSs) when the average sliding displacement exceeded 5 mm varied between 0.116 and 0.176.…”
