Three new phenotypes of human red cell acid phosphatase: ACP1FA, ACP1GA, and ACP1GB

Abstract: Three new phenotypes of human erythrocyte acid phosphatase (ACP1) have been detected and found to be unique by direct comparison with previously identified ACP1 variants. One of these new electrophoretic variants, labeled as ACP1FA, has been detected in the Hispanic population of California. The electrophoretic variants identified as ACP1GA and ACP1GB have been detected in a black family in North Carolina. A family study has shown that ACP1G is transmitted as an allele of ACP1.

“…Some of the bands demonstrate shifts in position when using different techniques and buffers. This is seen in the most re cently identified variant, ACP1*M, re ported by Nelson et al [9,10] by CE. This variant was not distinguishable on IEF from ACPl*A.…”

“…The variants were also identified by CE using starch gels at both pH 5.7 and pH 5.9 as described by Nelson et al [9,10], Figure 6 is a photograph of the variants on IEF, pH 4-6.5. Separating the variants by both IEF and CE enabled us to determine that the new alleles were indeed different from those reported to date.…”

“…In our recent publication in this Journal (Nelson et al 1984) we described three new red cell acid phosphatase variants which we labeled as ACP1 FA, ACP1 GA, and ACP1 GB. We identified these variants as such because we believed these were the only new variants found since the detection of the ACP1 alleles A CP1 A, A CP1 B, A CP1 C, A CP1 D, A CP1 E, A CP1 °, ACP1 R, ACP1Trcl, and ACP1GUAq.…”
