Three new species of Impatiens (Balsaminaceae) from Myanmar

Abstract: Three new species of Impatiens (Balsaminaceae) from Myanmar are here described: I. decurva Ruchis. & S.B. Janssens, I. hartnolliae Hook. f. ex Ruchis. & Suksathan, and I. oblongata Ruchis. &Van der Niet. The 5-lobed short fusiform fruit of all three species suggests that they are members of subgen. Impatiens sect. Uniflorae Hook. f. & Thomson. For I. decurva and I. oblongata, subgenus membership was corroborated by phylogenetic analyses of a combined dataset of nuclear ITS and plastid atpB-rbcL intergenic spac… Show more

“…The floral morphology of the lateral united petals and dorsal petal indicates that I. decurva is related to I. florulenta Hook. f., as also discussed by Ruchisansakun et al (2018a), rather than I. katjae. Further study, especially phylogenetic analyses, may reveal the relationship between these species.…”

“…Additionally, the leaves of I. decurva are congested toward the stem apex. Both of those species were described with good illustrations and photographs in the original protologue (Ruchisansakun et al, 2018a). The recently collected species is apparently not identical with either; therefore, we describe it here as I. katjae Nob.…”

“…In this regard, it can be estimated that about 150-300 species still remain unexplored and are expected to be discovered in future studies on Myanmar orchid flora. As for conservation, all orchid species are legally protected by national legislation but most orchids are still under various threats for (Aung et al 2017, Jin and Kyaw 2017, Tseng et al 2017, Yang et al 2017, b, Aung and Jin 2018, Ding et al 2018, Liu et al 2018, Li and Ren 2018, Ruchisansakun et al 2018, Ya et al 2019, Yao et al 2018, b, Mu et al 2019.…”
