“…This was apparently a provisional treatment, as the species assigned to this genus by Kurtzman (2003) are polyphyletic. The phylogenies of these yeasts resolved from single-gene analyses were not congruent with that resolved from the combined gene analysis, as shown in the present study (see supplementary material in IJSEM Online) and previous studies (James et al, 1997;Kurtzman & Robnett, 2003;Mikata et al, 2001;Špírek et al, 2003). The addition of novel species to existing phylogenies is expected to contribute to a reclassification of species into more homogeneous groups.…”

“…This was apparently a provisional treatment. The phylogenies of these yeasts resolved from the sequences of the small-subunit rRNA gene and other single genes were not congruent with that resolved from the combined gene analysis (James et al, 1997;Kurtzman & Robnett, 2003;Mikata et al, 2001;Špírek et al, 2003). The addition of novel species may help to reclassify the species in this genus into more homogeneous groups.…”

“…Scale bar: 0.1 nucleotide substitution per site of Taiwan. Saccharomyces yakushimaensis is another interesting case; it was initially isolated from soil on Yaku Island off southern Kyushu in Japan (Mikata et al 2001). The Kuroshio Current flows northward off the east coast of Taiwan and reaches Yaku Island 1100 km away (Noda et al 1998, Liu et al 2000.…”
