Thucydides

Abstract: This entry is about Thucydides’ work, significance, and its impact. It aims especially to bring out the innovative features of his history of the Peloponnesian War so that readers will have a sense of where he fits into the nascent genre of historical writing, in particular the attention to demonstrating his awareness that speeches ( logoi ) as well as events ( erga ) were equally part of the writing of history.
