Time Profile of nNOS Expression in the Spinal Dorsal Horn after L5 Spinal Root Transection in Rats

Abstract: Using immunohistochemical analysis, we investigated the time profile of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) expression in the lumbar spinal cord up to day 28 after transection of the L 5 spinal root. On day 14 after injury, we also evaluated the effect of intrathecal application of 7-nitroindazole (7-NI), a selective nNOS inhibitor (8.15 µg in 5 µl), on thermal hyperalgesia. Our results indicated that nerve transection increased the intensity of nNOSimmunoreactivity in superficial and deep laminae of the dor… Show more

“…Stress has been shown to activate the inflammatory cascade, that IL-6 as circulating biomarkers of inflammation plays a role in both acute and chronic stress responses, which stress can induce profound elevates in circulating IL-6 33,34 . Some studies showed that nerve injury increased the inflammation factor in the central nervous system [35][36][37][38][39] . The role of inflammatory mediators in gonadal abnormal function investigated in studies [9][10][11] , which in line with our results.…”

“…Inhibition of NOS can lead to decrease in locomotor activity by dopaminergic transmission. L-NAME has also been shown that has reduced analgesic effects and DA-mediated morphine effect on locomotion (Bahari et al, 2015; Sahraei et al, 2004a; Sahraei et al, 2004b; Zarrindast et al, 2003). …”
