TINE as an accelerator control system at DESY

Abstract: Large research institutes such as accelerator-based research centres deal with a large number of complicated components, which should be integrated into and controlled as one homogeneous system. The components of such systems have been frequently developed at different times, in different countries and use different standards and technologies. The control system of components or subsystems may use different computer hardware, operating systems, network protocols, hardware interfaces and field buses. This paper… Show more

“…For DESY II and PETRA III several machine parameters are measured and are recorded, time-stamped and archived using the TINE Accelerator Control and Monitoring system [8]. One important parameter for the DESY II Test Beam Facility which is used for some of the performance measurements (see Sec.…”

“…The client-server design also allows for scriptable and programmable modes of operation, implemented using the control system TINE (threefold integrated networking environment), developed at DESY (Bartkiewicz & Duval, 2007). The interface provided by TINE has, up to now, been employed to run test sequences automatically, but it can also be used to embed hardware control into high-level scripting languages such as Python.…”

“…In contrast to other sites involved in the MXCuBE Collaboration, at P13 and P14 MXCuBE2 communicates with beamline devices via the TINE (Bartkiewicz & Duval, 2007) control system. Furthermore, data acquisition sequences at the 'Start/Execute' step are delegated to middleware TINE services which tightly coordinate the actions of a multitude of devices, as briefly described in Karpics et al (2016).…”
