TiO2/polypyrrole nanocomposites photoactive under visible light synthesized by heterophase polymerization in the presence of different surfactants

Abstract: TiO 2 /polypyrrole nanocomposites were synthesized by batch (B) and semi-batch (SB) heterophase polymerization of pyrrole onto TiO 2 nanoparticles. Sodium bis-2-ethylhexyl sulfosuccinate (AOT), hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were used as surfactants while ammonium persulfate served as oxidizing agent. The resulting nanocomposites were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscop… Show more

“…The second band is related to the formation of polaron structure [38,39]. The third absorption band at approximately 445-453 nm is the polaron-Π * transition of the PNMA in the emeraldine salt form which is in the dope state [39,40]. All absorption bands are consistent with a previous work [39].…”

“…Due TEM technique burns the polypyrrole, it is not appropriate to verify the existence of PPy on the surface of SrCO 3 -Sr(OH) 2 sample with TEM images. However it is worth to mentioning that the composite SrCO 3 -Sr(OH) 2 /PPy has a core-shell structure [ 50 ].…”

“…The adsorption of methylene blue on polypyrrole has also been reported [57][58][59][60][61][62] but the comparison of results is again difficult, due also to variable polymer morphology depending on the polymerization conditions. Polypyrrole was not investigated alone but only in composites with inorganic species.…”
