Tissue distribution of rare earth elements in wild, commercial and backyard rabbits

Abstract: Figure S1. Box plots comparing the elemental values in liver and muscle across wild, commercial and backyard rabbits. WL-wild liver, WM-wild muscle, BL-backyard liver, BM-backyard muscle, CL-commercial liver, CM-commercial muscle. P(KW, liv) represents the p value from Kruskal Wallis test comparing the element in liver among different types of rabbits. P(KW, mus) is the p value from Kruskal Wallis test comparing the element in muscle among different types of rabbits.

“…Applying Canonical Discriminant Analysis (CDA) a broad classification of samples into European, South American, and Australasian was achieved. Since then, analytical studies, following by the appropriate statistical analysis, have been carried out for examining elements as markers of the geographical origin of yak [ 84 ], rabbit [ 85 , 86 ], pork [ 87 ], mutton [ 88 ], and cured ham [ 89 ]. It is worth mentioning that in the latter, the ratio 87 Sr/ 86 Sr has been measured in addition to the elemental composition of the cured ham, since it could be considered as a tracer of the regional geological components.…”

“…Rare earth elements (REEs) are a set of seventeen transition metals including scandium (Sc), with an atomic number of 21; yttrium (Y), with an atomic number of 39; and the 15 lanthanides, with atomic numbers ranging from 57 to 71, as defined by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Lanthanides consist of lanthanum (La), cerium (Ce), praseodymium (Pr), neodymium (Nd), promethium (Pm), samarium (Sm), Foods 2021, 10, 349 2 of 12 europium (Eu), gadolinium (Gd), terbium (Tb), dysprosium (Dy), holmium (Ho), erbium (Er), thulium (Tm), ytterbium (Yb) and lutetium (Lu) [5,6].…”
