“…A systolic annular velocity \11.5 cm s -1 predicted right ventricular dysfunction (ejection fraction \45%) with a sensitivity of 90% and a specificity of 85% [79]. RV peak systolic velocity impairment has been observed in patients with scleroderma, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, and LV failure [80][81][82][83][84]. Moreover, noninvasive estimation of right atrial pressure is possible [67,69] using trans-tricuspid pulsed-wave Doppler and TDI (E/E a ).…”

“…1c). MPI is one of the most accurate indices of ventricular performance since it includes parameters relative to both cardiac contraction and relaxation [19,20]. Moreover, MPI estimation based on tissue Doppler analysis is relatively independent from intravascular volume reduction after HD [23].…”

“…Regional TDI myocardial performance index (MPI) was calculated as previously reported [20]. Average regional TDI MPI for the right ventricle was calculated as follows: (MPI lateral + MPI septal )/2 [19]. RVD was defined by an average regional MPI value >2 SD from the mean of the values derived from a group of 100 healthy subjects (MPI >0.53).…”

“…The observation of the trend towards smaller hypertrophy in the Conventional group may reflect the difficulty in preparing mature myocardium in clinical practice, as well as the need for longer periods of stimulation to achieve that end. Although magnetic resonance imaging is currently the standard for morphological and functional assessment of RV 36,37 , in this study, we could not rely on such examination, which would certainly enrich the findings. Despite this, RV function was estimated by the same observer (MCDA), using the same method for all animals, which minimizes the variability between the two diagnostic approaches.…”
