To Investigate Different Parameters of Economic Sliding Based Seismic Isolation System

Abstract

Masonry Structures are extensively built in developing countries because of their economy and ease of construction but they are brittle and have poor seismic performance. This paper presents an experimental and numerical study conducted to investigate the optimum thickness of the isolation layer of a newly introduced economical seismic isolation system termed as Reinforced-Cut-Wall. Hollow concrete blocks were used to optimize the properties of the isolation layer during the experimental and numerical study. The performance of the proposed isolation system is evaluated by installing it in a 1:3 reduced scale unconfined brick masonry wall through cyclic loading tests.
