Topography and topology optimization of diesel engine components for light-weight design in the automotive industry

Abstract: This paper focuses on the optimal design of connecting rods and optimal design of a particle sensor system in diesel engines in order to save material, reduce costs and enhance quality. Optimization is very significant for developing better designs and means less material, lower costs and better conditions. Topology and topography optimization are new but likewise very important optimization approaches for the automotive industry. One of the aims of this study is to create an optimal design for connecting rod … Show more

“…Most companies give importance to and allocate budget for their R&D activities to make innovative designs that have these characteristics. Also, it is possible to cooperate with universities and other companies in order to combine their knowledge and know-how (Yıldız et al, 2019). In addition, brands must design automotive components by taking advantage of developments in material technologies and software with new generation approaches.…”

“…Various researchers have presented diverse topological design algorithms that can obtain smooth 3D topologies sourced from the volumetric, regular designed part. This approach has shown important results in construction [12], as well as automotive [13,14], medical [15], and additive manufacturing [16] fields.…”

“…Yildiz et al presented an article for comparative study on the application of 10 recent metaheuristic approaches to optimize the design of six mechanical engineering optimization 35 . Mathematical data were used by Yıldız et al drawn from the numerical formulas in order to determine if the part was suitable for topology optimization 36 . Seven recent meta‐heuristic optimization algorithms have been applied by Abderazek et al 37 to automate the design of disk cam mechanism with translating four follower motion laws.…”
