TOPOISOMERASE 6B is involved in chromatin remodelling associated with control of carbon partitioning into secondary metabolites and cell walls, and epidermal morphogenesis in Arabidopsis

Abstract: SummaryThe harlequin mutant encodes subunit B of plant-specific topoisomerase VI. Transcriptomics showed synergistic effects on expression of adjacent genes, suggesting a broader role in chromatin remodelling during development and stress responses.

“…The expression of a brassinosteroid signaling gene, TOP6B ( BIN3 / HYP6, XLOC_000845 ), was high at S5 stage, which positively regulates cell expansion via controlling DNA replication and endoreduplication levels (Hartung et al ., ; Yin et al ., ). More recently, its role in carbon partitioning into secondary metabolites and cell wall has also been demonstrated (Mittal et al ., ).…”

“…Besides its role in endoreduplication, the plant Topoisomerase VI has been implicated in transcriptional silencing (Kirik et al, 2007) and gene expression control, notably during the response of plants to stresses and phytohormones (Yin et al, 2002; Jain et al, 2008; Mittal et al, 2014; Jain et al, 2006). For instance, the constitutive expression of the rice Topo VIA or Topo VIB subunits enhanced the expression of stress-responsive genes and conferred abiotic stress tolerance to transgenic Arabidopsis plants (Jain et al 2006).…”
