Topological correlators and surface defects from equivariant cohomology

Abstract: We find a one-dimensional protected subsector of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 matter theories on a general class of three-dimensional manifolds. By means of equivariant localization we identify a dual quantum mechanics computing BPS correlators of the original model in three dimensions. Specifically, applying the Atiyah-Bott-Berline-Vergne formula to the original action demonstrates that this localizes on a one-dimensional action with support on the fixed-point submanifold of suitable isometries. We first show tha… Show more

“…In well studied cases, e.g., theories of Argyres-Douglas type or class S, much of the recent progress in understanding their chiral algebras has been guided by a set of compelling conjectures [20,21,[40][41][42]. The 3d/1d correspondence is on a somewhat different footing due to the explicit Lagrangians derived in [43][44][45][46]. 2 Nevertheless, applying these results to ABJM theory requires the use of conjectural dualities [49,50] and even then the calculations can be very involved.…”

“…Note that ε 1 is a deformation parameter, and ε 2 is an FI parameter of the 3d N = 4 gauge theory. This 1d TQM was originally studied in [41] using the technique developed in [42](see also [43,44]); a similar discussion using the Coulomb branch algebra [45] can be found in [46].…”
