Torsional Free Vibration Characteristics of Hybrid Clinched Joints

Abstract: The aim of this study is to predict the torsional free vibration characteristics of single lap-jointed cantilevered hybrid clinched joints. The focus of the analysis is to reveal the influence on the natural frequencies, natural frequency ratios and mode shapes of single lap-jointed cantilevered hybrid clinched joints caused by variations in the material properties of the structural adhesives. It is shown that the torsional natural frequencies of single lap jointed cantilevered hybrid clinched joints increase … Show more

“…Fig. 17 shows the first eight transverse mode shapes of the single lap-joint encastre clinched joint corresponding to material Poisson's ratio 0.33, Young's modulus 70 GPa, and density 2700 kg/m 3 (He et al, 2009a). It can be seen from Fig.…”

“…The overlap hybrid joint was studied numerically and experimentally and the results indicated that the clinched joint before adhesive curing was stronger [46,45]. In addition, hybrid clinched joints have some advantage regarding vibration and free torsion, and it is significantly influenced by the Young's modulus of the adhesive [47].…”

“…Clinched joints were produced under different forming loads to evaluate the evolution of the joints' profile experimentally. By means of 3D ANSYS FEA, the influence of the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of the structural adhesives on the natural frequencies, natural frequency ratios, and mode shapes of the single-lap clinch-bonded hybrid joints was deduced by the present author and coworkers [12].…”
