Torsional strengthening using carbon fiber reinforced polymer of reinforced concrete beams subject to combined bending, shear and torsion

Abstract: The results of an experimental investigation of six large scale rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) beams subject to different ratios of combined bending, shear, and torsion strengthened with externally-bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) U-wraps are presented. All beams exhibited torsion-dominated behaviour. The presence of discrete CFRP U-wrap strips controlled the cracks well and the resulting torsional cracks were observed to be oriented at about 50°. Regardless of loading ratio, strengthened be… Show more

“…The design and reinforcement of the structure should match the basic macroscopic mechanical responses, such as tensile, bending, and shear, etc. (Chen et al 2023;Li and Deng 2023;Pejatović et al 2023). The deformation decomposition method is a structural analysis method that can decompose the comprehensive deformation into basic macroscopic deformation (Shi and Goodman 1989;Jin et al 2011;Zhang and Hoa 2014;Wang et al 2022).…”
