Toward a socio-spiritual approach? A mixed-methods systematic review on the social and spiritual needs of patients in the palliative phase of their illness

Abstract: Background: Patients express a variety of needs, some of which are labeled social and spiritual. Without an in-depth exploration of patients’ expressions of these needs, it is difficult to differentiate between them and allocate appropriate healthcare interventions. “…La complejidad social del caso presentado revela la necesidad de contar con trabajadores sociales sanitarios que ante el final de vida puedan asesorar, acompañar y velar por una integralidad en el cuidado en situaciones de complejidad social y sanitaria como la presentada (Nadal, 2020). Esta necesidad está en sintonía con investigaciones recientes que ponen de manifiesto los beneficios de un abordaje socioespiritual en cuidados paliativos ampliando los horizontes de interrelación entre disciplinas y promoviendo roles avanzados de tipo transdisciplinar en la atención al final de vida (Lormans, 2021;Puchalski, 2009).
