Towards an Evidence-Based Understanding of Electronic Data Sources

Abstract: Systematic Literature Reviews and Systematic Mapping Studies are relatively new forms of secondary studies in software engineering. Identifying relevant papers from various Electronic Data Sources (EDS) is one of the key activities of conducting these kinds of studies. Hence, the selection of EDS for searching the potentially relevant papers is an important decision, which can affect a study's coverage of relevant papers. Researchers usually select EDS mainly based on personal knowledge, experience, and prefer… Show more

“…We queried six digital libraries, namely IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, ScienceDirect, and Scopus for retrieving the relevant papers. According to [36], these are the primary sources of literature for potentially relevant studies on software and software engineering. For all these libraries, except SpringerLink, we ran our search terms based on title, keywords and abstract.…”

“…We assert that Scopus is a complement to SpringerLink as it indexes a large number of journals and conference papers in software engineering and computer science [19,20]. We did not use Google scholar due to its low precision of the results and the tendency of returning a large number of irrelevant papers [21]. Table 2.…”
