The development of complex applications is one of the major current challenges of Ubiquitous Computing. Such applications are difficult to develop because they use services provided by different context-provision middleware, thus being necessary to know the models used for communication and representation of context information for each one. This paper presents the semantic composition and Web service selection mechanisms provided by OpenCOPI, a platform designed to integrate context-provision middleware. In OpenCOPI: (i) the applications are described in a high-level of abstraction by using semantic workflows; (ii) the semantic composition is responsible for composing concrete services from abstract descriptions of the applications, and; (iii) the selection is based on service quality metadata and user preferences. This paper also presents an evaluation of the semantic composition and the Web service selection mechanisms considering a ubiquitous application.

A workflow can weave independent jobs into a chain of work processes, based on a scenario. The uWDL is an XML-based workflow language that can supply web services to users with various contexts that can be dynamically occurring in real world. With the uWDL, users can easily make context-aware workflow services in the various computing environments. In this paper we design and develop a workflow scenario in uWDL to support context-aware services in the area of the agricultural environment that tends to be unsystematically and dynamically changed. The developed scenario will show that the context-aware workflow technology based on uWDL can be one of the reasonable and potential solutions for the service automation in the smart agriculture. For this, we use contexts, which are based on an ontology specified in agricultural domains, as service execution conditions to provide context-aware services. And, we will show how to define various environmental data in agriculture as context information through uWDL. Therefore, with the uWDL-based workflow scenario for smart agriculture, a developer can easily make smart agricultural application services such as a growth monitoring service, a shipment control service, and an automatic cultivation service.

To improve work efficiency and productivity in agricultural environment, which may naturally be protean, unpredictable and laborious, many researchers have made attempts to apply information technology in the field of conventional agriculture. Especially, they have great concern toward a reasonable and reliable service control model or architecture to control agricultural works automatically and smartly. This article proposes a framework to support context-aware or smart services in agricultural environments, based on a context-aware workflow model and USN/RFID. The suggested framework is focused on supporting autonomous agricultural services in the fields of growth control, protection against disease and insects, and the output control of the agricultural computing environment using a workflow model which is one of the successful service automation models, using contexts from various sensors in agricultural fields. The proposed framework, based on a context-aware workflow, can be greatly helpful in the development of smart applications or work automation in the field of agriculture.
